“Saviour” Steve x Reader

The attack on New York left many people sceptical about The Avengers abilities, whether they would really be able to stop all the bad in the world, whether they should even be allowed to do what they do… it all made no sense to you. How is it so many people could hate them, when all they do it try to help? Sure a few buildings were slightly destroyed, and not everyone made it out in time, but if they weren’t there to stop the aliens, wouldn’t the entire world be overrun and under the control of Loki…?

Your mind contemplated all of this as you walked down the sidewalk, a rather heavy subject for what would normally be a pleasant walk.  The street lamps sent rays of bright light streaming down onto the dark, damp street and your breaths came out in bursts of white vapour from the cold.  After juggling with the plastic bag in your hands you managed to tug your jacket tighter against your (adj.) frame, hoping to fend off the nights chill.  You took a deep breath, the night air was starkly cold but had a freshly sweet note to it, and even though the street lights managed to block out almost all of the stars in the sky, but the brightest were just able to push through the haze of light.  In the distance you heard an ambulance siren travelling at a high speed… was it an ambulance, or police siren…? You sighed softly, probably the latter… Instead of coming together after the events of New York, the world continued on its path, people killed, stole and lied, there were too many criminals and not nearly enough people to keep them in line.  You reasoned to yourself that that was the reason Loki found it so easy to wreak havoc, as a planet, Earth was weak, and was a continuous source of bickering and hatred. You blew a few stray (h/c) hairs from your eyes, and passed the plastic bag full of food from one hand to the other whilst shaking your head, hoping to rid yourself of the thoughts.

You rounded the corner and immediately ran into someone,
“S-sorry!” you said quickly, looking up at the man.  His face was shrouded in darkness from the black hoodie he was wearing, the only thing you could clearly make-out was his sharp eyes, and the toothy grin that spread across his face when his eyes met yours.
“It’s no problem, Darlin’” he stepped forward, his eyes never flinching from yours.  This felt wrong, you stepped back, set on keeping a healthy distance between yourself and this man for as long as this uneasy feeling surged in your stomach.  “Say, what’s a pretty little thing like you doing all alone, walking the streets at night?” he stepped forward again, and again, and again, until you found yourself standing on the edge of the curb directly underneath a street light.
“I-I, uh,” you stuttered, the look on his face made you feel even more uncomfortable.  Another step back saw you fall to the cool, wet street, and the plastic bag you were holding hit the ground hard.  The man’s smile widened even more.  He was now leaning over you, readying to pounce, when the obnoxiously loud sound of a motor cycle reached your ears. You looked for the source of the sound.  A blonde man was driving directly into the path of where you were lying, you would have moved if it weren’t for the looming shadow above you.  The man atop the motorcycle reached you, the brightness from the light above you obscured your vision, but you were able to see the dark shadowy figure offer you his hand,
“C’mon sweetheart,” his wide grin returned.  No.  You didn’t know what would happen if you took his hand, you were intent on staying on the ground.  Your hands and butt felt numb from the cold and you were trembling, but you thought it to be for a completely different reason.  Your (e/c) eyes moved to the man to your side, pleading with him to say or do something.  You couldn’t quite see his features, but anything was better than the situation you were in.
“There you are!” his voice suddenly called over the roaring engine, which he was quick to shut off and dismount.  He made his way to your side, placing a warm and gentle hand on your shoulder, “I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Now that he was closer, his face was clearly visible.  His neatly ordered dirty-blonde hair, strong broad shoulders, and pale blue eyes looked all too familiar.  Why did he look so– Before you could finish your thought, he hoisted you to your feet with ease, and began walking back to his motorcycle, “Thank you for taking care of her,” he called over his shoulder to the dark figure while helping you aboard his bike.  The man muttered something unintelligible before skulking back towards the darkness.

When he was out of sight, you let out a relieved sigh, allowing your muscles to relax.
“Thanks.” You said, turning your attention to your saviour, he chose to remain standing next to the bike.
“My pleasure Ma’am,” he replied with a soft smile and a nod. Between his familiar face and his polite and formal tone, you realised, this was Captain America… Steve Rogers… one of The Avengers! Your mouth was agape slightly as you attempted to form a sentence,
“You’re… you’re Captain America, like, the Captain. America – I just got saved by Captain America…” you rambled for a moment before his nervous laugh stopped you. Your eyes refocused on him.  A smile tugged at his lips, and, though you thought it to be a trick of the light, a pale blush covered his cheeks.  “S-sorry!” you smiled awkwardly.  Great first impression… he probably thought you were some crazed fan-girl. “I promise I’m not as crazy as I seem to be…” you laughed, attempting to break the awkwardness you felt. “I’m (First Name) (Last Name), it’s a pleasure to meet you, even if the circumstances aren’t the best,” you said, offering your hand toward him.
“Steve Rogers, the pleasure is mine.” He replied, taking your small hand in his. A moment of silence passed between the two of you before you, rather ungracefully, climbed down from the bike.  Your eyes turned toward your dinner, sprawled across the sidewalk and street.  You let out a quiet sigh, “W-would you feel more comfortable if I escorted you home…?” you looked to Steve, again a faint flush coloured his cheeks.  It was beyond adorable. You smiled, he had obviously misread your exasperation for fear, however, why pass up an offer such as this?
“That sounds wonderful Steve, but, do you think we could stop for dinner first? Mine kind of ended up all over the floor” you asked, gesturing to the pile of (Fav food) on the ground.  The Captain let out a half laugh and nodded,
“Sure thing,” he replied, leading you back to the bike.  He swung his leg over and reached for the helmet, which he handed to you.  You clicked it on and took a seat behind him.  Steve looked over his shoulder, “You may want to hold on Ma’am.” You did as he suggested and wrapped your arms around his muscular torso.  Quite quickly you felt your cheeks heat up, the vibration from the bike beneath you didn’t help dull the heat either; however, once Steve pulled away, the adrenaline from being on a motorcycle for the first time took over.

Steve took you to a small restaurant a few blocks away and to be honest you felt a little guilty.  When you asked him to take you for dinner, you had envisioned a take away store, not a proper restaurant… But, as the evening progressed, you found the guilt you were feeling to fade away, and you also found yourself enjoying Steve’s company more and more.

“Thanks Steve, for everything,” you said, while ascending the stairs to your apartment.  The blonde man smiled,
“Ma’am, you don’t need to keep thanking me,” he said with a laugh, you pouted,
“And I told you to call me (Name)!” your arms flew up in the air dramatically flopping to your sides again, Steve laughed louder this time. You stopped at your apartment door and fumbled with your keys.
“(Name), I was wondering… uh-” he paused, fiddling with the ends of his shirt.  Your eyes moved from the door to Steve. He cleared his throat, and rubbed his neck, “Would… would you like to do this again…?” your eyebrows rose slightly, was Captain America actually asking you out…? He noticed your changed expression and stuttered more, “t-that is if you want to, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable or-”
“Steve,” you said, reaching forward to touch his shoulder, a soft smile decorating your features, “I would love too.” His already flustered face turned an even darker red, you giggled while scribbling your phone number on a piece of paper from your handbag.  “Just let me know when and where,” Steve nodded.  Just before you entered your apartment, you whirled around and placed a soft kiss on the blonde’s cheek.  His face turned bright red, and he continued to watch as you disappeared behind the door.

Once you were inside, you collapsed happily on your couch.
“Besides, it would be kind of rude to deny my Saviour a date…” you whispered to yourself with a giddy smile.

This is my first Steve Rogers x Reader, and I'm wondering, is Steve to OOC...? I mean... I dont even know what I mean, just let me know what you think please!!! :D
